Newsletter 22nd April 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after the holidays. I hope you all managed to enjoy the sunshine and time with friends and family.

The children have started back confidently and have enjoyed meeting up with their friends after the break. The outdoor learning environments are being used well, with flowers and trees blooming. The children love to see the seasonal changes in their environment.

Partnership News

Welcome to Sam Petchey, Head of School at George White Junior. Sam started this week, and has been working with the school, to aid transition, for a term now. It is great having Sam as part of the team.

As a team of 2 schools we are currently planning our Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This will be a great opportunity for both schools to work together.

Covid update

Thanks to the success of the vaccination programme and access to antivirals, alongside natural immunity and increased scientific and public understanding about how to manage risk, the population now has much stronger protection against COVID-19 than at any other point in the pandemic enabling us to move to a less restrictive way of life and respond to COVID-19 in the same way as other respiratory viruses.

We continue to have a Covid risk assessment for staff to follow. We continue to ventilate the classrooms and are mindful of space used for larger groups of children or adults. Staff will not be routinely testing twice weekly, as tests are not freely available now. We ask that if your child is unwell with a high temperature they stay at home until they feel better and no longer have a temperature.

Healthy 5 to 11 year olds will be offered the COVID-19 vaccine from the beginning of April. Vaccinations will take place outside of school, in vaccination centres, pharmacies, GP surgeries and walk-in centres. Parents of 5 to 11 year olds will receive a letter from the NHS with further information on the vaccine.

You can book COVID-19 vaccination appointments online, at a vaccination centre or pharmacy, or find a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination site without needing an appointment.

Open Classrooms

This is after school, every Friday, and is a chance for you to look at your children’s books and to see their classrooms. All are welcome, every Friday.

Safeguarding

Traffic and Parking outside school

Please help keep our children and families safe on the roads and paths outside school. Yesterday there was a collision involving 2 cars, and there were also several cars not following the traffic calming measures. Please be considerate, drive slowly, be mindful of very small children on pavements and crossing the road.

Please see our website for all of our policies and more information about safeguarding

Designated Safeguarding Leads Mrs Westall, Mr Tolson, Miss Wood, Miss Balachandre These members of staff monitor and manage all safeguarding practices and ensure staff are supported and have the training they need.
