Dear Parents and Carers,
I have written several High Five letters this week. The High Five letters recognise children who have demonstrated something amazing at home or at school under these headings, ‘RESPECT, HELP, LEARN, ENJOY, ACHIEVE.’ We celebrate every small or big achievement, so please do let us know if you notice something at home that you would like your child to be recognised for. You can talk to a senior leader on the playground, a class teacher or e mail the school office. We always love to hear from you.
As many of you will know, much of our behaviour management is focused on Restorative Practices. All staff have received recent training on this. The main focus is around relationships between children and between children and adults. We talk children through any incidents that might have occurred and coach them into being able to talk about how their actions make others feel and how they can improve a situation to enable all involved to move forward positively. Our High Five is a big part of ensuring children are praised for good choices and it gives all children a chance to shine.
Please remember that school is closed on Monday 2nd May as it is Bank Holiday Monday. Enjoy the long weekend.
I feel that partnership work is becoming embedded in day to day life at both schools. I hear teachers talking about joint subject leadership work. I am hearing plans being made for the Year 3 children to visit Mousehold for an afternoon in June. I’m also hearing Jubilee plans and joint event planning. Senior leaders and Designated Safeguarding Leads are working together on looking at joint priorities and how both schools can support each other. It is an exciting time for both schools.
KS1 Trip to Norwich Cathedral
We are looking forward to our first school trip since the pandemic began! We will be taking our Key Stage 1 children (Years 1 and 2) to the Cathedral for a “Here Come the Normans” session. The trip will teach them about the history, design and context of the Cathedral; when it was built, why it was built, and how the building was constructed. The session will complement our learning about inventors, materials and structures from around the world. The Year 1 children will have their trip on 17th May, and the Year 2 children will go on 18th May.
Sports Day Dates
We are excited to invite you to share in your children’s sports day with them in school. Sports days will be held in the second half of the Summer term and are a chance for your children to show you how much they have developed in their physical development.
At Mousehold we see the benefits of physical education promoting children’s wellbeing and how it contributes to an overall healthy lifestyle. We will be exploring physical wellbeing and nutrition throughout the Summer term and look forward to visits from some sports coaches to further enhance our learning.
Nursery sports day will be held Thursday 26thMay with a reserve day of Thursday 9thJune. 11am and 2pm
Reception sports day will be held Friday 10thJune with a reserve date of Wednesday 15thJune. 9.15am

Science Reading Challenge
A big thank to families for completing the Science Reading Challenge and for sending in photos of children enjoying science activities. Your child should have received their certificate and bookmark. If not, then please see your child’s teacher. We saw such a variety of science reading, including books on lots of different topics and everything from recipes, to quizzes to seed packets, to information posters at the zoo or nature reserves as well as instructions. We hope that your children have enjoyed this reading challenge and that it will have stimulated their interest in reading science books for pleasure. Research has shown that doing this can promote interest in science, the learning of science skills, foster curiosity and promote a lifelong love of science reading and the consideration of science as a career. There will continue to be a science reading book box in each classroom and the library, so that children have access to these at all times.
A very big well done to all!
Mrs Woodward and Miss Balachandre
In a few weeks time Miss Balachandre, Assistant Head, will be starting Maternity Leave. Miss Balachandre taught Barn Owl class up until Easter and is now fulfilling leadership duties until she leaves. We wish her all the very best at this exciting time for her and her family
Friends of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School Charity
Bag2School will be collecting from Mousehold School on Wednesday 4th May. Please bring your bag (or bags!) to the school on that day and help us have a really good collection.
By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags and soft toys, (please refer to http://uk.bag2school.com/for full details). In addition to raising much needed funds it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.
You can use any bag to donate your items and don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!
Do you shop with Amazon often? The Friends of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School charity has been added to Amazon Smile, which contributes a percentage of all eligible sales to our charity. We would ask that any Amazon users who have not yet chosen a charity to follow search for ‘Friends of Mousehold’ so we can generate funds while we shop!
Here’s how you can set it up with you existing Amazon account https://www.facebook.com/101813278749985/posts/257296309868347/?d=n
We will be holding a ‘Books and Bakes’ sale after school on 27th May (last day of this half-term) outside the dinner hall. We will be following the school’s Jubilee theme for that day with some Jubilee themed bakes! If you or someone you know is a keen baker please get in touch with the Friends of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School email@example.com. We will happily take baked goods and any unwanted books on the day to sell on our stall. All money will go towards the Friends of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School charity to fund school trips, equipment, book bags amongst other things!
Finally, we are pleased to announce the school will be holding a Summer Fayre on the 24th June (after school). There will be lots of opportunity for children, parents and teachers to get involved on the day and raise money for the school. In previous years we have had fun games, raffles, and food on offer and we want to make this an enjoyable event for everyone. If you would like to volunteer to help run a stall on the day please get in touch with the Friends of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School. We will keep you updated in the weeks to come on how you can help and get involved.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
The children will be marking this occasion on Friday 27th May. Plans are being made to give children a day to remember.
This is after school, every Friday, and is a chance for you to look at your children’s books and to see their classrooms. All are welcome, every Friday.
Safeguarding – Conversations around children.
Please can I remind parents about the importance of being mindful of what you talk about in front of your children at school and at home. If you would like to talk with a senior leader/safeguarding lead/class teacher about a worry you have, please ensure that your child is not close by. We can always find care for your child before or after school or an appointment can be made. When children hear small parts of, or whole conversations it often unsettles them and they then worry too.
Please see our website for all of our policies and more information about safeguarding
