Newsletter 24th February 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after the holidays. I hope you all managed to enjoy the sunshine and time with friends and family.

The children have started back confidently and have enjoyed meeting up with their friends after the break. The outdoor learning environments are being used well, with flowers and trees starting to come to life. The children love to see the seasonal changes in their environment.

Upcoming strike action

As communicated previously, the NEU are planning the following teacher strike days:

Wednesday 1st March

Wednesday 15th March and Thursday 16th March

The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the Government over teachers’ pay and not because of any issues with the school. Having spoken with all teachers and looking at the capacity available at Mousehold Infant and Nursery School, I am writing to inform you that the school will not be open to any pupils on Wednesday 1st March 2023 and we are asking that you do not send your child into school on this day.

We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils, and feel that we would be unable to provide this with the limited teaching staff we have available.  I would like to reassure you that all our teachers care very much about all children in their class. I understand that this could cause issues for some parents and carers, but we appreciate your understanding and support, just as we support the teachers right to strike while maintaining our commitment to doing the very best for our children.

Nearer the time of the next planned strike action on Wednesday 15th March, I will communicate any updates on school closure. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your continued support.

A message from our Mental Health Champions

Encouragement for Mums…

Being a Mum is one of the most rewarding jobs but it can also be one of the hardest most exhausting ones!  Be kind to each other… Why not take the time to encourage another Mum with the gift of time and a cuppa.  It’s good to share life with friends, talking to can often lighten the load.  With Mothers Day just round corner, we wanted to encourage you in the role that you do within your families.  Care for the Family, a charity focussing on family wellbeing has produced some great 30 minute video clips that you can listen to for free.  These light hearted short episodes feature down to earth conversations from other Mums as well as expert advice.  They are well worth a listen

The Mum Show – Care for the Family

The Mum Show is a twelve-part series on being a mum in today’s world … whatever that may look like. Each thirty-minute episode will feature honest conversations, moments of soul-searching, expert advice and even the occasional light-hearted digression.
