Newsletter 28th April 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have written several High Five letters this week. The High Five letters recognise children who have demonstrated something amazing at home or at school under these headings, ‘RESPECT, HELP, LEARN, ENJOY, ACHIEVE.’ We celebrate every small or big achievement, so please do let us know if you notice something at home that you would like your child to be recognised for. You can talk to a senior leader on the playground, a class teacher or email the school office. We always love to hear from you.

As many of you will know, much of our behaviour management is focused on Restorative Practices. All staff have received training on this. The main focus is around relationships between children and between children and adults. We talk children through any incidents that might have occurred and coach them into being able to talk about how their actions make others feel and how they can improve a situation to enable all involved to move forward positively. Our High Five is a big part of ensuring children are praised for good choices and it gives all children a chance to shine.

Please remember that school is closed on Monday 1st May as it is Bank Holiday Monday and Tuesday 2nd May due to strike action by the NEU. Enjoy the long weekend.

Partnership News

Partnership work is becoming embedded in day to day life at both schools. I hear teachers talking about joint subject leadership work. I am hearing plans being made for the Year 2 children to visit George White for transition session next term. Senior leaders and Designated Safeguarding Leads are working together on looking at joint priorities and how both schools can support each other. It is an exciting time for both schools.

Reading Books

We are pleased to announce that from this week, we will be sending home Big Cat Collins, Little Wandle reading books to support your child’s reading. The book sent home will match the book they are reading in their guided reading groups in class. These books are perfectly matched to the Little Wandle progression and your child’s current reading stage.

In order for our reading system to work across the whole school, it is essential that your child’s book is returned on time, so the next group can access it.  Your child’s class teacher will let you know the day it will need to be returned each week. You will continue to have access to exactly the same books on Collins ebooks, and we encourage you to continue to use this platform.

We have invested over £3000 in the new reading system and therefore ask that you take the greatest care with the books.

Please continue to support your child with their reading development  – every page helps! Just as importantly, sharing their reading for pleasure books is vital to continue to build their love of books.

Thanks for your support

Safeguarding

Conversations around children

Please can I remind parents about the importance of being mindful of what you talk about in front of your children at school and at home. If you would like to talk with a senior leader/safeguarding lead/class teacher about a worry you have, please ensure that your child is not close by. We can always find care for your child before or after school or an appointment can be made. When children hear small parts of, or whole conversations it often unsettles them and they then worry too.

Please see our website for all of our policies and more information about safeguarding

Designated Safeguarding Leads Mr Tolson, Mr Smith and Miss Wood. These members of staff monitor and manage all safeguarding practices and ensure staff are supported and have the training they need. Please ask to see one of these adults if you are worried about the safety of a child at school.
If you have a safeguarding concern about a child out of school hours then the number to ring is:   CADS – Children’s Advice and Duty Service – 0344 800 8020.
