English as an Additional Language (EAL)

At Mousehold Infant, we aim to ensure that we welcome and value the cultural, linguistic, and educational experiences that EAL pupils bring to this school. We celebrate the fact that many of our children are exposed to more than one language and encourage the development of fluency in one’s home language or languages. We are committed to maintaining the bilingualism or multilingualism of our pupils and recognizing the ethnic backgrounds of all our pupils.

Our school fully supports EAL pupils on their learning journeys by considering that EAL pupils are learning through another language and come from cultural backgrounds that may have different understandings and expectations of education, language, and learning.

Our EAL Specialist Teacher is Raul Alvarez-Conte. He works with our EAL children one-to-one and in small groups and assesses, monitors, and records EAL pupils’ progression. Additionally, he provides advice on the implications of general assessment, target setting, and strategies and ensures new arrivals with EAL are supported to feel secure and welcomed.

Raul is in school every Monday, always happy to support parents and carers. If you would like to make an appointment with Raul on a Monday, please contact the school office or Raul directly at ralvarezco@istnorfolk.co.uk
