More Able, Gifted and Talented

More Able, Gifted and Talented (MAGAT)

At Mousehold Infant and Nursery School we are committed to improving the skills of all staff in our school to achieve excellence in meeting the needs of MAGAT learners. Planning, teaching and assessment will allow for personalised learning to suit all individuals and ensures all have the opportunity to achieve their potential.  In keeping with our Growth Mindset focus, pupils should be given the chance to take risks and sometimes make mistakes. MAGAT pupils will experience a mixture of acceleration (moving through the curriculum at a faster rate than other pupils), enrichment (broadening study by including elements outside of the National Curriculum) and extension (studying the standard curriculum in more depth; increasing complexity and challenge) activities.  For further detail, please refer to our MAGAT policy.

More Able Provision at Mousehold

Delving deeper with our more able learners across the curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to make links across subject areas, which in turn is suited to our more able learners.  Teachers encourage discussion about these links through carefully questioning, encouraging more able learners to analyse and evaluate, rather than just retrieve or comprehend.

There are opportunities for application of knowledge in continuous provision

Responsive teaching – preparing for the top and supporting ALL pupils to get there.  For example; activities are demanding and challenging for all children - access to the material/task/activity is secured through talk, modelling, checking for understanding and practice.

Challenge – is an entitlement for all.

Subject specific provision for more able learners
